Serpent Gods in Aztec Mythology Essay Example for Free
Serpent Gods in Aztec Mythology EssayAztecs had a pantheon of Serpent Gods to which they attributed the inception and workings of the essential world. One of their principle gods, Quetzalcoatl, translated as feathered serpent, had many manifestations, each holding an important role part of the Aztec myths of creation and the workings of the natural world. As Braden points divulge the main of the many roles designated to Quetzalcoatl is that he along with his brother Huitzilopochtli took the task of creation of humanity besides the creation of life, including gods, environments and all living substances (1930, p. 120).He accomplished this task by splashing his blood on the bones and ashes of previous human beings that had existed in a previous age. Out of this auto-sacrifice of blood sprang a male and then a female child, the forbearers of all modern people. Brundage goes on to say that thus Quetzalcoatl is not only a god to be worshiped out of reverence for his powers over na ture but as a father figure as well. The Aztecs saw him as a god who was benevolent and the earth for their existence (1979, p.106).Another manifestation of Quetzalcoatl is that of the bring up. The Aztec name for a tornado or thunderstorm wind was ehecacoatl or roughly translated wind snake in the grass . The wind that blows in the beginning the storm is traditionally associated with complex deity. The wind is a powerful force of nature and it is easy to see how a society could attribute the characteristics of a snake to the wind. The wind swirls and moves with effortless grace, just as a snake glides along the ground. Brundage goes on to say that this shows the ease with which the Aztec mind accepted the reptilian nature of the wind (1979, p.106-107).However the most common account presents Quetzalcoatl in human form and as a divine priest who comes down from his heavenly abode to progress to the Aztec people a new religion. Brundage points out that he tries to make the Aztec s rituals more of a personal spiritual event. Before his arrival the legend says that the Aztecs sacrificed hundreds of humans to the several(a) gods. In the form of the high priest Quetzalcoatls goal is to make Aztec ritual more simplistic and auto-sacrificial.He stresses auto-sacrifice and the sacrifice of snakes, butterflies, birds, etc. (1979, p.116). He is more concerned with the sanctity of human life. It is his opinion that if human blood is to be sacrificed it should be give directly by the person making the sacrifice. This legend ties in nicely with the creator myth. In his role as creator of the human race he sacrificed his own blood, now he is telling the people that by sacrificing their own blood it is a more precious offering that killing another person. He is seen as a divinity that is concerned for the lives of his people. Outline1) The main of the many roles designated to Quetzalcoatl, the principle serpent god in Aztec mythology. E realone would want to know how children grew up in the old times what influenced their daily lives and what created meaningful impa cts in their lives as they grew into pornographics (Lambert, 2008). Its true when one goes with the history that children undergo stages in breeding that bring about significant changes in life. This as well changes from time to time because of the continuing change in the bureau of life. The way a child was brought up in the Ancient Greece is different from the way it was in Egypt and further more different from the way it was in the coupled Kingdom and the present USA (Lambert, 2008). Similarly, the modern child is different from the ancient child. Upon this observing is where this paper is out to focus on outlining the history of children with emphasis on the events that have marks changes in a childs life, comparison of childhood changes across countries and culture and a gen datel commentary on the similarities and differences. The countersign of the above will further lead into the discussion of how changes in family structures have influenced childrens lives and the co nflicts that children face in the current modern world. Any further legislation that has been set up to protect the child will also be reviewed.History of Children and Comparison across CulturesChildren born some five hundred age ago had a rough life (Lambert, 2008). This was because few of the children born survived. Most of them died before their fifth birthday while early(a)s died their sixteenth birthday (Lambert, 2008). For those who survived, life was very difficult they didnt go to school. They instead wait oned their parents with work at home. The children grew up under strict discipline from their teachers and parents as most of the naughty children could be shell up (Lambert, 2008). Despite this, the children had a lot of time to run into. The most important event that would take place in a childs life was asking, discipline and play. For example, in the ancient Egypt, children played with dolls, toy soldiers, ball and marbles. This is similar to what happens to child ren today. Also, these children never went to school. Instead, boys learnt farming and trade while girls learnt sewing, cooking and other skills from their fathers and mothers respectively. When compared to children in Greece, children were regarded as persons at the age of five. Parents were entitled to abandon newborns babies to die of expo certainly. Those babies got by strangers would later become slaves. Girls learned skills analogous weaving from their mothers. Unlike in Egypt, boys went to school and learnt reading, report and arithmetic, and poetry and music. They believed physical education was important for boys. The early life of children in the USA was characterized by early recruitment into the local factories as labourers. This was im envisionted by the colonial attitude that rocked the country at that time. This was later changed through championship for child rights. However, in the UK projects were established to help parents to be the first people to train their c hildren before anyone else (Evangelou Sylva, 2007). This would give the children a good start in life. The focus was much(prenominal)(prenominal) on parent-child interaction which was seen as very vital for a childs early learning (Evangelou Sylva, 2007). It would also contribute to the childs later academic achievement especially those from low-income households. In England, Scotland and Wales, it is reported that one child in every five households received mean-tested benefits in a case where their parents werent working (Evangelou Sylva, 2007). Thus intervention programs were meant to do away with disparities in the preschool geezerhood so that poor children enter school on a more footing to their affluent peers.Controls and Strategies historically and socially imposed on ChildrenThe children in the early ties got controlled through strict discipline. For example, in Greece discipline was severe to the extent that could often be beaten (Lambert, 2008). Those who did wrong w ere denied important basic needs like food, establish under harsh treatment and whipped for any offence (Lambert, 2008). Similar to UK, children were expected to show respect to their elders. They were to grow according to the morals that they would be taught by their grandparents. Children in the UK were given equal opportunities for learning. At some point, the parents were required to show recognition of their early literacy achievement (Evangelou Sylva, 2007). They were also required to engage in interaction with children on literacy activities. High level of integrity was regarded as a virtue and whoever did non show it faced harsh consequences. How changes in family structure affects Childrens ExperienceIt is a fact that children do display different patterns of life depending on the family context in which the child has been raised. For example, those children who have been raised in lone-parent families normally show microscopical progress in their general well-being than those from two-parent families (Mackay, 2005). When parents opt to separate, the effects become adverse. This shows clearly that child outcomes are contingent on family contexts. With much reference to family separation, the impacts include interference in cognitive capacity, schooling, physical health, mental and emotional health, social conduct and behaviour, peer relations and criminal offending actions like cigarette fastball (Mackay, 2005). Such children often abandon their homes at early stages in life. Others later get subjected to sexual abuse (Mackay, 2005). In other words, research shows that children who experience nine-fold transitions in family structure normally face worse developmental outcomes than children raised in stable families (Fomby Cherlin, 2007). However, these multiple transitions and negative child outcomes are most associated to usual causal factors such as parents antecedent behaviours and attributes (Fomby Cherlin, 2007). redbrick Childhood and th eir Current legislation, policy and rights comparative study of child history goes as far as exploring the differences that emerge in different nations and between the West and other societies. Unlike in the past where parents just gave birth to any number of children, in the modern world, there are policies that control the birth rates especially in Europe and USA. On the issues of Child Labour, there have been continuous reforms especially in the US. The US started it much earlier than Europe by developing a mass compulsory education. However, in America, children to date are allowed to hold themselves and even enmity parental views and actions. In Europe, this goes against the crusade for obedience and good manners in the 19th century. Also, in USA, the enthusiasm for childish innocence and maternal affection surpasses that of Europe. To date the authoritarian parental approach ahs remained in Europe.Conflicts that Children Experience in Modern SocietyChildren in the modern evi dently have freedom to learn so much. However, the modern world also approaches them with conflicts that have great impact in their lives (Danziger, 2003). Some leave harsh experiences in their minds. The modern toady today faces conflicts like war in the society. According to the United Nations study on children, war in the form of harsh emotional, physical and sexual violence do shutter childrens world. War undermines their life foundations, destroys their homes and breaks down their trust in adults. There is need to reduce armed conflict for the sake of children.Complexities and Challenges of Childhood in Modern SocietyIt is further a fact that the modern to some point has not taken issues of the child seriously. This is because of the so many complexities and challenges of modern childhood. This can be well seen through an exploration of the relationship between childhood and globalisation (Finn et al, 2010). Issues of social construction of childhood well present some of the ch allenges that affect children. These are marketization, marginalization, medicalization and mobilization (Finn et al, 2010). These processes do shape the experience of the child as well as their social work policies and practises.Educational Setting in childrens LivesA focus on the historical educational practitioners shows how childhood was highly celebrated in the past. This is because these practitioners brought about an impact on the educational practice. Some of the impacts have been choose into childrens early education today. To expand more on these, it worth discussing the philosophies that were presented by some of these theorists. An example is Fredrick Froebel. Fredrick had the idea that the key event that marked a childs life was play. He presented the fact that children learn through exploratory, symbolic and free-flow play. Exploratory play meant children playing with natural materials consisting of clay, mud, water and sad, a sheath that would help them to get motiv ated and focus on building relationships between the childs home and the nursery/school. Free-flow play entailed children learning freely without much use of adult supervision. In the end, the children would become independent. Symbolic play involved playing with objects to make them into something else. This would mostly happen in role-plays in that toddlers would use objects and convert them into something else. For example, a toddler playing using a bin would turn it around and use it as a drum. The idea of Fredrick was later introduced in schools in the form of physical plays. Children would go outside and work on their physical skills. This has influenced todays society as children would need to do more than staying in classrooms. They would go outside or go on field trips. This would in turn help with their exploratory play and physical play as they would develop their physical skills as well as their intellectual skills. At most times, they used symbolic play area for childre n to socialise with each other and express their emotions. They also let children become independent so would use free-flow play.Another theorist was Rudolph Steiner Rudolph Steiner dictum children as having three developmental stages which would help them to become independent when they came into adulthood. These stages are the active stage emphasis on feelings and the cognitive stage. The active stage started at the early ages of seven. This is where children play willingly but under adult supervision. However, the adult must ensure that the children show their independence. The stage where children would emphasis on their feelings starts at the age of seven to fourteen. This is where they would have emotional feelings from their heart and go further to express their feelings. Later came the cognitive stage which would start at the age of fourteen years onwards. This is when they would become independent without a lot of adult supervision. Rudolph saw children as having different developmental stages. His thoughts which had started at the age of 7 later came to influence todays early years setting because the adult role would be to observe the children to see if they are on the right tracking. female horse Montessori another scholar believed in motivating children. She believed that children are active learners, so would not need a lot of adult supervision as they should learn things on their own. She believed that children would learn naturally. This is a well-known placement around the world that showed Maria Montessori encouraged children to become independent and to do independent work. The reason why she decided to do this was because she wanted to encourage children to work alone so that they could get used to the routine when they are older. She argued that children are naturally self-motivated and that children are active learners. This would later enhance problem-solving skills in children. In her theory, Maria Montessori does not use free-flow pla y but considers it to be useful and important at times as it could be part of their daily routines, mostly at the ages of 3-5 years old.Steiner and Frobel on the other hand, believed that children should do things without a lot of adult supervision. This is because it would make them independent and they would not need to rely on other people as much as they should. Margaret McMillan had the same views as Frobel about free play and natural play. This is because they believed that it would help children to learn and recognise the natural materials, and build their knowledge on where they come from. McMillan also influenced the school meals and medical services. School meals would be used for those whose parents worked and did not have time. They gave medical service so that children could get checked up while in school. These check-ups consisted of things like head lice and meningitis shots. McMillan also thought that children needed meals while they are in any environment. She also informed about the childs safety. If a child had hurt himself/herself then the adults role was to record it for the parent/guardian so that they would realise what had happened.Another theorist Susan Isaacs believed that at the age of seven, children should not do things such as exams so as to give them time to do things such as creative play that would help them learn to express and feel differently. They would be able to move around and develop different developmental skills in their own time and in turn get used to schools routines. Susan Isaac encouraged children to express their feelings and use their imaginative thought in dramatic play, which would also consist of creative play. This would help children with their social and language development. dramatic play was thus considered as the home corner in early years setting. They would have a home corner in their activity plan as it would help children with their learning and development. In todays society, they would use Isaac s views of dramatic play. This is because it would help them with their social skills.Reggio Emilia plays a role of misrepresented balancing between engagement and attention which is based on careful and sensitive listening, observation/documentation, and reflection with other adults. She says that the teachers serve as resources and guides to the children. This would then help the teachers to work together with the assistance of other staff members and also the parents. This would in turn create a welcoming, learning and developmental environment. After a constitutional look at the different educational practitioners that may have an influenced the education settings, it is clearly that the ones whose ideas most impacted up to todays education settings are Margaret McMillan and Maria Montessori. This is because it comes out clear through analysis that Margaret McMillan was the one who influenced the practices in the UK. The reason why the education practice has improved when looki ng at Margaret McMillan practitioners is because, Margaret McMillan had influenced things such as free meal times, snack time, free-flow play and natural play. She also influenced and brought up the idea that children would get medical check-ups each year to make sure that they do not have things such as head-lice and jaundiced pox . These are vital illnesses that most children would receive when they are at the ages of 3-8 years old. health check check-ups are there so that the illnesses do not get spread around to the other children. Sometimes parents might not know if their children have the chicken pox. Therefore, they would send them to school where other children would receive them. This would be the same with head lice. Therefore, this called for regular check-ups. For example, when a child falls while playing in the playground, they would get it checked to make sure that there are not any bleeding/ bruising. If it occurs then the person who had find outed it would need to write it in a witness book to show their parents/guardians. This book would in turn be signed by the parent on regards that they have spoken about the incident and had realise what had happened. This also helped to stop any dramatic effects that the parents/ guardian would use on the teacher in the future.ReferencesFinn, J. (2010). Government and the Central Bank Economic Recession Responses
Government and the Central Bank Economic Recession ResponsesDiscuss how the government and the key curse should respond to an economic slowdown and a deferralAt the end of year 2008, economists suggested that the prudence may be led to -or already in- a recession when economic growth was decelerating. The official definition of a recession is two successive quarters with a decline in gross domestic product (GDP). However, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) identifies that a recession as a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more(prenominal) than a few months found on a number of economic indicators, with an emphasis on trends in involution and income. It doesnt confine itself to use the technical definition of two quarters of veto GDP growth because it is only assessed quarterly and it is subject to revisions. By the time GDP growth is negative for two quarters, the recession is already well happening. However, an economic downturn is defined less strict. For instance, we were in an economic downturn even with positive growth because the economic growth rate was slowing down, house prices were amounting, unemployment grade were change magnitude and people could see the cable cycle that moved from a boom period to bust. To respond to an economic slowdown and recession, government and central bank should take active roles in resolving economic issues through the use of two expansionary policies monetary policy and fiscal policy. While the economy is not officially in a recession, there argon signs that economic activity is slowing. According to CRS Report for Congress, 2008, economic growth in the United States was negative in the twenty-five percent quarter of 2007 after two strong quarters, but turned positive in the first and second quarters of 2008. According to one data serial publication (graphs), employment fell in every month of 2008. The unemployment rate, which rose slightly during the last half of 2007, declined in January and February of 2008, but began rising in March and by August stood at 6.1%. The continuing financial turmoil is also cause for concern. Forecasters, while projecting slower growth in 2008, remain uncertain about(predicate) the likelihood of a recession. If financial market confidence is not restored and private market spreads remain elevated, the broader economy could slow due to difficulties in financing consumer durables, business investment, college education, and other big ticket items. When the economy is down turning, economist believe the central bank should place more emphasis on short-term monetary policy as it takes fewer time to implement and its decisions to significantly decrease interest rates, and natural market adjustment, along with the already enacted stimulus, would be enough to stay off recession. When there is a massive intervention in the financial markets, the transmission of money can be stimulated into the financial sector and ultimately into the broader economy, where an of the essence(p) expansion of credit could significantly raise aggregate demand. It is said to emphasise more on monetary policy than fiscal policy because there ar lags before a policy change affects disbursement. Therefore, stimulus could be delivered after the economy has already entered a recession or a recession has already ended. First, there is a legislative process lag that applies to all policy proposals a stimulus package cannot take effect until bills be passed by the raise and Senate, both chambers can reconcile differences between their bills, and the President signs the bill. Many bills get delayed at some step in this process. As seen in Table 8, many past stimulus bills have not become law until a recession was already underway or finished. Is additional fiscal stimulus needed during the economy slowdown? It depends on the current state of the economy. Fiscal policy temporarily stimulates the economy thro ugh an ontogeny in the calculate deficit. Fiscal stimulus can take the form of higher government spending (direct spending or transfer payments) or evaluate reductions, but ordinarily it can boost spending only through a larger budget deficit. A deficit-financed increase in government spending directly boosts spending by borrowing to finance higher government spending or transfer payments to households. A deficit-financed tax cut indirectly boosts spending if the recipient uses the tax cut to increase his spending. Economists usually agree that spending proposals are somewhat more stimulative than tax cuts since part of a tax cut bequeath be saved by the recipients. The most important determinant of the effect on the economy is its size.Economic performance can be illustrated through shifty in aggregate demand and aggregate supply curves. Aggregate supply and demand are shown in the graph below. If consumer confidence in the economy waterfall and people reduce their spending, aggregate demand allow fall, reducing real output and prices and possibly dropping the country into a recession (figure1).As the American economy slid into recession in 1929, economists relied on the Classical Theory of economics, which promised that the economy would self-correct if government did not interfere. But as the recession deepened into the Great Depression and no correction occurred, economists realized that a revision in theory would be necessary. John Maynard Keynes developed Keynesian Theory, which called for government intervention to correct economic instability. As fiscal policy is the use of government spending and taxes to stabilize the economy, Keynes recommends that parliament should increase government spending in order to prime the pump of the economy during periods of recession. At the same time, he calls for tax decreases in recessionary times, to increase consumers disposable income with which they can buy more products. Through both methods of fiscal pol icy, the increase in aggregate demand brought about by such actions leads firms to increase production, hire workers, and increase household incomes to enable them to buy more. While both tools are effective, Keynes advocated change in government spending as the more effective fiscal policy tool, because any change in government spending has a direct effect on aggregate demand. However, if taxes are reduced, consumers most likely will not spend all of their increase in disposable income they are likely to save some of it. Referring to the graph, a rise in government spending G or a decline in autonomous taxes will cause the aggregate demand AD shift to the right, thus increasing both the equilibrium level of real GDP, Q*, and the equilibrium price level P*.When economy is running into recession, central bank is one of the agencies responsible to influence the demand, supply and hence, price of money and credit in order to keep production, prices, and employment stable. To do this, t he central bank uses three tools open market operations, the deduction rate and reserve requirements. In order to bring the economy out of recession, central bank will lower the reserve requirements. Due to the act, member banks are required to keep less money, and so more money can be put into circulation through expanding their loans to firms and people. Furthermore, with the use of its open market operations for buying government securities, the central bank pays for these securities by crediting the reserve accounts of its member banks involved with the sale. With more money in these reserve accounts, banks have more money to lend, interest rates may fall, and consumer and business spending may increase, encouraging economic expansion. The discount rate is serves as an indicator to private bankers of the intentions of the central bank to enlarge the money supply. So a lowered discount rate which is announced by the central bank encourages more banks to borrow from the reserve b anks. According to the graph below, a central bank open market purchase of securities, a fall in the discount rate or a decrease in the required reserve ratio will raise the money supply, thereby increasing aggregate demand and the equilibrium level of real GDP, Q*, and the equilibrium price level, P*.

Action of Myofibrils In Muscular Contraction and ATP as an Energy Sourc
Action of Myofibrils In sizable Contraction and ATP as an Energy Source for Muscular ContractionAbstractThe objective of this research was to determine how myofibrils and ATP atomic number 18 involvedand/or altered in muscular contraction. I analyzed the bodily structure of myofibrils and theirsubunits of myosin and actin. I then determined that myosin shortens actin, carrying outa muscular contraction, by forming cross-bridges between the myosin heads and the actinfilaments. I also discovered how ATP is used in muscular contraction and then replacedby undergoing a reaction with PCr. This research is very important to athletes anddoctors in order understand how to increase muscular performance and trade musculardiseases, respectively. The human body has an uncountable number of muscle-builder fibers. There are somany, packed so tightly, that it makes it nearly impossible to isolate any pocket-sized number ofcells. In one study, it was determined that the tibialis anterior was m ade up of 160,000muscle fibers. 1 The size of this muscle is not particularly impressive and the ?bicepsbrachii muscle likely contains 3-4 times that number.? 2 Not only that, but humanskeletal muscles are always changing how they interact with themselves, and the rest ofthe body. This is especially apparent in muscular contraction. In fact, it has only been inthe last 50 years that we have begun to really understand them, and much of the researchthat has been done has been conducted on animals that are not humans one can see theproblems that may arise from cutting up a human and examining muscles as theycontract. It is important to have at least a rudimentary understanding of these processesfor one?s own health purposes, athletic performanc... ...296-305.5 MacIntosh, B., Gardiner, P., & McComas, A. Many Lives, Many Masters Essay -- essays research papers
Many Lives Many Masters Many Lives, Many Masters is a book about a psychologist Brian L. Weiss, who by helping his patient he helps himself as well. Through Catherine he well-read that his conventional approach finished the scientific method and medication was not the proper way to heal his patients. Catherine comes in with anxiety, panic attacks and phobias and wants a way out of it all. Dr. Weiss approaches the situation in a scientific manner as he does with all of his patients, he doesnt get very far until he decided to use hypnosis. He would have liked to use medication provided her fear of swallowing pills prevented that. During hypnosis she begins to remember her childhood but not this childhood her retiring(a) emotional state. At first Dr. Weiss is very skeptical I mean there is no scientific explanation for this but he decides to continue. In her past lives he begins to discover why she has so many of the fears and phobias that she has. As well, during hypnosis she beg ins to identify others in her life now as some from her past lives. During unmatch equal to(p) of these hypnosis after her death a different voice begins to speak. This voice knows things about Dr. Weiss past that no one else would and could know because he never shared the details with Catherine about his personal life. This Masters begins to tell him about his meaning in life, a message. One that through his religious beliefs as well as through his scientific methods he could not understand. The Masters spoke of many plains that were opened throughout your past lives. You could only reach these plains if you solved the problem you had in your life. For example, if you leave a life and never learn to trust in your next life, you must learn to trust. If this is achieved you would be able to reach to the next plain and receive more than knowledge. He began to believe and listen. Through this listening, he began to have new meaning in his life and learned how to help Catherine thr ough hers. He than began to try to reach the end of Catherines lives to get to the end in the hope that the Masters would relay another message through Catherine. The masters did not appear every time that Catherine remembered a death in her past life only when they decided to relay this message. These messages consequently stopped and Catherine was cured. Then years later Dr. Weiss believed it was time for him to pass this message to others through his b... ... was a phase in my life, which I had to learn from as heavy as it was for me it made me a much stronger person. They chose before they were born what they were to accomplish and when they should leave. The full meaning to why they passed away so young I gullt think Ill full be able to understand now but in time I will. Time should not be of so much importance to me. The idea of forever I think is the hardest for me to understand. I think even Marlo in Mutant Message didnt fully understand the definition brought about by t he Real People. It is also something, which in time we will be able to understand. I have to forget the past and worry about now and not that I wont have time to do everything I want to do. I have a meaning and that is what I should focus on what I came to this life to do and learn. Only then will I be able to focus more clearly on what is important and not clutter my mind with everything that is going around me. I do think though that my meaning or at least on is to help people to be the alternative to medication as Dr. Brian Weiss believes now. I believe that through music therapy I will be able to help others and teach them to help themselves as well.
