Shirley Chisholm essays
Shirley Chisholm articles Shirley Anita St. Slope Chisholm was conceived on November 30, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York. Her Father, Charles St. Slope was a foreigner from French Guyana (presently it is called Guyana) and her mom, Ruby (Seale) was a settler from Barbados. Charles was an assembly line laborer and her mom was a needle worker and a mother to help accommodate the family. Youthful couples made some hard memories making a decent living, and in anticipation of setting aside a portion of their cash, they sent their youngsters back to the Caribbean. Shirley at 3 years of age and her 2 more youthful sisters, Muriel and Odessa went to live with their grandma in Barbados, where they remained for a long time. When Shirley came back to the U.S she was placed into a class two years ahead, yet in a year she made up for lost time. At the point when she graduated she was offered grants to Vassar and Oberilin schools, yet she joined up with Brooklyn College since it wasnt expensive. At school during the 1940s, Shirley studied brain science and intended to turn into an educator since instructing was the main thing calling open to dark ladies. Shirley graduated with a B.A. with distinction in 1946, at that point encouraged nursery school while reading for a bosses degree in basic instruction at Columbia University. During her school years she joined the Harriet Tubman culture. In 1949she wedded a kindred Columbia understudy by the name of Conrad Chisholm, and she graduated with her M.A. In 1960 Shirley helped structure the Unity Democratic Club to get more blacks to run for 17 Assembly District of New York State, and in 1964 she offered herself as a popularity based up-and-comer. She was picked as the applicant. Shirley realized it would be hard yet went to converse with individuals at city intersections and neighborhood corridors. Shirley won by an overwhelming margin. Shirley served the get together for the following four years. She presented in excess of fifty bills and two was passed. One was known as the SEEK that helped children to get to montage. Reading Pathways Maggie Nelson
Reading Pathways Maggie Nelson Maggie Nelson is better known now than ever before, but shes not well-known enough that her most ardent fans (myself included) are ready to stop evangelizing on her behalf. For some readers, shes famous, but for others, shes an unknown or perhaps a little too intimidating to approach. Shes hard to categorize. She writes poetry and nonfiction, but those terms dont really capture the strangeness of her books. Her work is genre-bending and experimental, but only in the most exciting and refreshing of ways. She will make your mind explode, but she will leave you not caring that your mind is in pieces on the floor. Its hard to say why Maggie Nelson is having a moment, but The Argonauts, which she published last year, was a success. Theres something about her intelligence, her openness and vulnerability on the page, and her subject matter including gender and sexuality, new forms of family, suffering and loss, violence, and the power of writing that make her a strong voice for our times. I was lucky enough to get to see her in person last fall at an event at the Center for Fiction that she did with Heidi Julavits and Sarah Manguso. It was a highlight of my year (if you follow that link and watch the video of the event, you can see the back of my head; I had a front-row seat!). The event was full, and the energy in the room was electrifying. She has made many readers fall in love with her books, and if you read her, the chances are good you will fall in love too. So here are my recommendations for the order in which to read her: First, Bluets, from 2009. This is the book that many Maggie Nelson fans-to-be discover first. Its made up of short essayistic, poetic bits, organized in a numbered list. Her subjects are many and include the color blue, in which she finds so much interest and meaning it will take your breath away. Its also about suffering: she writes about a friend who became a quadriplegic after an accident, and she tells about her heartbreak after a difficult break-up. The book is meditative and philosophical, but also vulnerable and personal. Here is her first line: Suppose I were to begin by saying I had fallen in love with a color. Next, Jane: A Murder and The Red Parts, published in 2005 and 2007, respectively. The Red Parts is being reissued by Graywolf Press this April. These books work well together because they are two different approaches to the same subject: the murder of her aunt Jane Mixer in 1969, four years before Nelson was born. Jane: A Murder is a book of poetry, although it has sections of prose as well, in the form of pieces of Janes journals. The poetry is beautiful, very approachable and moving. Even if you are someone who doesnt read much poetry, you will find this one engaging. The Red Parts is another look at the murder, this time in prose, after the re-opening of the investigation in 2005. It tells about the trial of a new suspect, about how the murder affected Nelsons family, about Nelsons struggles with what she calls Murder Mind, and about our cultures troubling obsession with brutal murders of young white women. Its not necessary to read Jane: A Murder and The Red Parts together each one can be fruitfully read on its own but they make a great pairing. Finally, read The Argonauts, Nelsons most challenging and most inventive work. This book is both philosophical and highly personal. She tells the story of her relationship with Harry Dodge, who identifies as gender-fluid, and her experience with pregnancy and childbirth. The Argonauts is a meditation on identity and the things that shape it and tear it apart. She quotes liberally from the writers who shaped her thinking, so it will send you to the library and bookstore in pursuit of all her references. But as thoughtful and heady as the book is, its also grounded in her personal, physical experiences of the world. Theres no one quite like Maggie Nelson writing right now. I think we are lucky to have her.

How to Read Shakespeare Dialogue Aloud
On first sight, Shakespeare dialogue may seem daunting. Indeed, the idea of performing a Shakespeare speech fills many young actors with fear. However, you should remember that Shakespeare was an actor himself and wrote for fellow performers. Forget criticism and textual analysis because everything an actor needs is right there in the dialogue ââ¬â you just need to know what youââ¬â¢re looking for. Shakespeare Dialogue Every line of Shakespeare dialogue is packed with clues. Everything from the imagery, structure, and use of punctuation is an instruction for the actor - so stop looking at just the words in isolation! Clues in the Imagery Elizabethan theater didnââ¬â¢t rely on scenery and lighting to create a scene, so Shakespeare had to carefully choose language that created the right landscapes and moods for his plays. For example, read aloud this passage from A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream where Puck describes a place in the forest: I know a bank whereon the wild thyme blows,Where oxlips and nodding violet grows. This speech is loaded with words to suggest the dream-like quality of the text. This is a clue from Shakespeare on how to read the speech. Clues in the Punctuation Shakespeares use of punctuation was very different ââ¬â he used it to signal how each line should be delivered. Punctuation forces the reader to pause and slows down the pace of the text. Lines without punctuation naturally seem to gather momentum and emotional energy. Full stop (.) Full stops naturally bring the sense and energy of the line to a close.Infrequent commas (,)A comma forces a slight pause in delivery to reflect a tiny development or shift in the characterââ¬â¢s thought process. For example, read aloud Malvolioââ¬â¢s line from Twelfth Night: ââ¬Å"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.â⬠Did you notice how the commas forced you to pause and split this sentence into three parts?Repetition of commas (,)Commas can also cause a line to gather in emotional intensity. If you see lots of commas together, evenly spaced and splitting the lines into small snappy chunks, then this is Shakespeareââ¬â¢s way of asking you to emotionally invest in the dialogue and build up its rhythmic intensity, as in this example from King Lear: ... No, no, no life! Why should a dog, a horse, a rat have life,And thou no breath at all? Thouââ¬â¢it come no more;Never, never, never, never, never.Colon (:) A colon signals that the next line should sound as if it is responding to the previous line, as in Hamletââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"To be, or not to be: that is the question.â⬠Do Not Add Punctuation If youââ¬â¢re reading aloud a speech written in verse, you may feel the need to pause at the end of each line. Do not do this unless the punctuation specifically requires you to do so. Try to carry the sense of what youââ¬â¢re saying into the next line and youââ¬â¢ll soon discover the correct rhythm of the speech. You should think of a Shakespeare play as a blueprint for performance. All the clues are there in the text if you know what youââ¬â¢re looking for ââ¬â and with a little practice, youââ¬â¢ll soon discover that thereââ¬â¢s nothing hard about reading Shakespeareââ¬â¢s dialogue aloud.

Tort Law Free Essays
In any given situation, it is evidently clear that the company should remain responsible and legally liable to their people or employe and among the consumers that patronize their product. Thus, should there be any accident and/or damages that badly harm these people in the course of exercising their duties, as employees and workers, the company could be held liable and sue to settle their legal obligations in shouldering the damages and lost of these people. As for the case of The Bug Plant located in Shady Town, USA, the employees and the vendor that have been attacked and robbed in the parking lot of the company could possibly file a law suit against the The Bug Plant under the legal offense of Negligence, as written in the Tort Law. We will write a custom essay sample on Tort Law or any similar topic only for you Order Now Given the fact that the incidents of robbery against these people have happened within the premises of the companyââ¬â¢s grounds, wherein these people are working as the companyââ¬â¢s workers, both of the employees and the vendor could sue the company under the Tort Law, as it is evident that The Bug Plant has failed to ensure the safety and security of these people while staying and performing their duties and responsibilities for the company. On the other hand, The BUG Plant could also use the fact, as their defense, that the vendor who has been robbed, while waiting for the dock manager, is not their legal employee and that they do not have direct employment connection with this person and they should not be held liable for any damages. Management Principles Digital Technological Evolution
Question: Discuss about the Management Principles for Digital Technological Evolution. Answer: Introduction The 21st century has been a stage of digital technological evolution and which has seen a lot of innovations and inventions in the sector. According to Cowan (2012), technology refers to the dominant world domain in commerce; most of the companies depend on ICT to reduce costs, gain competitive advantage and also improve overall performance. Many companies have been developed each progressing at its stage depending on the strategies of management and operations. Most of the technological companies attribute their success to the constant use of teamwork to achieve their goals. According to Schwalbe, (2007), the unpredictability of technology and complexity of the field has led to the need of building strong communication networks between units so as to allow for the frequency of information. No software or technology is simple enough in these companies to get operated upon by one person no matter how educated or talented they are (Lencioni, 2013). There is a need for collaboration of the various technicians and departments so as to achieve maximum coordination and performance. Team performance is based on the overall culture of the organization and in most times, managers lack the necessary team leader skills to make teams work. Skills like strategic planning, communication, and decision-making enable managers to inspire team members and prompt their effectiveness (Beck, 2004). Technology companies apply the use of cross-product function development teams to innovate new products; members may range from the RD, sales and marketing, engineering among other functional units (Cowan, 2012). The managers put in charge of these departments fail to realize the importance of change management and that different teams warrant different approaches to management and distinct cultures since members are different and experiences also differ. Due to the failure to understand their role in developing the team and defining roles, the implicat ions include information asymmetries and lack of objectivity which in the long run leads to failure of the team (Boller, 2005). This case study report aims at analyzing teamwork at Google and the role played by management to enhance the cooperation. Background Google is one of the giants of the technology arena and is highly rated by its users all over the world (Cowan, 2012). It is a publicly traded multi- national company based in the US. It is hard to believe that the company started operations in a garage (Witzel Warner, 2013). Google specializes in internet based transactions that involve search engines, software development, networking, communication, clouding, and advertising among others. Organization owns over one million servers all over the world which process over one billion searches in one day. Their mission is to enable the flow of information all over the world and make it useful and acceptable. Google has in the recent past been interested in teamwork and how it can be improved (Lencioni, 2013). The company was an ideal choice of strategies since it acknowledges the value of team works since the formation of the business itself was based on a team of two Stanford University students, known as Larry Sage and Sergey Brin. In the year 2012, the company established a project known as Aristotle to study the aspect of teamwork that was aimed at providing information about the norms that drive the success of a team. The company managers believed that by understanding the basics and behaviours in social and political aspects of teamwork, they would be able to develop the perfect team that would work together to develop the company products (Tyler, 2015).The survey was an analysis of over a hundred teams all found in the enterprise, in a period of one year. Most of the useful groups were seen to have very stable social relations even when not in the teams while others showed too much formality. Identification of issues and problems From the case study, there are weaknesses in the team effectiveness model of Matts team that are inhibiting the overall performance. Problems arise in the context of the group whereby there is poor leadership, poor evaluation of worker members and hot climate with no established trust. According to Schwalbe (2007), the team is set as a group of people who come together to achieve a common goal. For this to be possible there needs to be a clear set of relevant and attainable goals whereby each member of the team understands why he or she is a member of the team. Lack of objectivity leads to confusion and a deficiency in focus, that may, in turn, result in a lack of seriousness (Beck, 2004). The team; therefore, does not understand their role; hence, produce poor results. The second problem identified is the work design which includes the composition of the group in terms of skills recruited; the task identity and task significance .The survey showed that the members cannot comprehend their identity and significance. This may cause lack of proper motivation for team members that may hinder their effectiveness. It is mistaken most of the time that workers only work to gain monetary compensation which is not the case (Lencioni, 2013). The members of the team may be de-motivated and thus lack effectiveness. Another problem is that the manager does not create time for the team and also has a history of being too friendly so as to gain favor among team members. This scenario is evidenced by the engineer in the previous engineer who could talk and not give others time to speak; the manager did not do anything about that, and so this may also be an issue in this team. There is a lack of proper communication on both sides since the team does not communicate their problems and Matt does not check with them to see if they are okay, he just leaves them to do their work. The three problems are caused by the poor management of the team (Malhotra,2000).The manager may be a bit experienced in the field but does not adapt to change. All teams are different in composition, role, and behaviours, so a manager needs to adjust to the various dynamics of team building. The fact that the team members in Matt's team do not understand their roles shows that the team leader is not actively involved in the group and did not define the goals. Henry Fayol formulated a theory that is meant to guide the management of groups and teams (Malhotra, 2000). The theory talks about effective planning, organization and a good communication system which is lacking in the team setting. Belbin's theory of team building suggests that the behavior of team members is shaped by how well they understand their roles in the team (Kaptan, 2002). According to Malhotra (2000), the theory of action-centered leadership by John Adair states that for a team leader to be effective then he needs to define the goals and objectives of the team and be an active participant of the work, making frequent consultations on progress and offering counsel. It also proves that there are information asymmetries since Matt thought that the team was efficient, yet it had weaknesses. The manager's dis-involvement has led to little motivation about training and complimenting the workers constantly to tell them they are doing a good job. According to Tyler (2015), the theory of motivation by Abraham Marlow states various categories that an employee needs to satisfy; they range from basic needs that can be satisfied by pay but also involve other factors like self-esteem and need for recognition which the manager apparently does not provide. According to Malhotra (2000), McClelland's Human Motivation Theory states that a leader needs to appreciate the efforts of the team constantly so as to motivate them to do even better. The progress theory by Amabile and Kramer states that for a team to be active then the manager needs to be a figurehead, define goals, motivate the workers but most importantly allow them some time on their own to work independently but ensure to check on the progress of projects. Matt should apply this principle to his team (Kaptan, 2002). Possible solutions One of the solutions that need to get implemented is ensuring that roles and responsibilities are clearly defined so as to enhance team focus and objectivity according to the theory of team building by Belbin and the. According to Kaptan (2002), Amabile and Kramer's theory of progress states that the manager also needs to motivate the workers more and be more actively involved in the teamwork ensuring not to affect their independence. McClelland's Human Motivation Theory provides the third solution and states that the manager should understand his role as a figurehead, decision maker and also ensure to appreciate the efforts of the team as a whole and not individuals (Kaptan, 2002). Proposed solution The most important answer is the motivation of team members by the team manger. Most of the problems are just farfetched points that converge at motivation. Even the proper defining of goals acts as a motivator and the active participation of the team leader not to mention the management skills which are meant to organize the team. According to Adetule, (2011), most theories of team building emphasize on the motivation of team members since it is believed to be an essential ingredient to success. Motivation may include training, bonuses, and appreciation (Adetule, 2011). The theory of motivation by Maslow, talks of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivators. The theory X and Y by Douglas McGregor suggests that the output of any team or individual is determined by the conditions of employment and not just the monetary compensation (Lencioni, 2013). Matt, therefore, needs to lay a lot of emphasis on motivating the team and also consult the top managers since Google has a lot of resources to conduct training and give bonuses. This solution will benefit not only Matt's team but also the other teams who will learn from example (Lencioni, 2013). Recommendations One of the areas that need urgent attention is the manager playing his role as a leader and being more involved. This way there will be motivation strategies like training of workers on their functions and also other motivational tools that can be applied within the next two years. The top managers should oversee this process, but the team, and Matt, the team leader also have an important role to play. The improvement of the teamwork will benefit the organization as an example will be provided to how teams and team managers should conduct themselves thus improving the performance of the many teams in the organization which will improve overall performance. Human nature plays a major part in the story as without it youââ¬â¢d personally become unaware as to why theyââ¬â¢ve reacted or had an opinion the way they have. The way itââ¬â¢s been used in the content of the story helps to determine and distinguish the difference and how you can individually separate each character to make them more of an individual having the access to their individual thoughts. Every day doesnââ¬â¢t only explore a different way of life, it also opens the eyes to individuals to realise when you truly love someone you put their ever need before your own. Everyday is a set in everyday society, set around and within the lives of a large majority of teenage lives. The main character is more distinguished from the rest of the lives around him, instead of being able to live like and everyday teenager he is gifted with the ability to inhabit a life, not just any life. Automobile in America Essay Example
Automobile in America Essay Example Automobile in America Essay Automobile in America Essay The automobile managed to change American culture dramatically in a short period of time. It allowed many people to move away from the overcrowded, stuffy, and dirty urban areas into less populated places with more space and air. The suburbs were born and single-family houses sprang up to replace the apartment tenements of the cities. People were now able to commute to work and also visit friends and family who lived further away. The automobile was also a hit with the younger crowd, who saw it as a new way to have fun and achieve freedom. The huge demand for cars also boosted the American economy, as the automobile industry was born. The economy in the United States was roaring in the 1920â⠢s. Workers became more efficient and very productive. Between 1922 and 1927, the economy grew by 7% a year (Nation of Nations, 6th Edition, Volume II, chapter 24, Pg. 694). Technology was growing and construction companies started building taller and taller towers. The success in all industries was affecting each other in positive ways in a chain. There was an increase in all industries and the industry that boomed the most was the automobile industry. Henry Ford organized mass production in his companies, which led to affordable cars. He also believed in making all the cars to look the same so cost would reduce the cost so buying cars would be affordable. Ford reduced the working hours and days of employees, employed African American people, and gave them respectful positions in his company. He had his employees educated on how to speak and dress properly. Many owned cars and this opened more business for real estate, re staurants, motels etc. (Nation of Nations, 6th Edition, Volume II, chapter 24, Pg. 694-695). From Fords ideas, the car was transformed from a luxury item into a necessity, and this is what made him more successful than any other competitor during that time.

The Importance of Project Management Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The Importance of Project Management - Coursework Example The time spent in socializing too had a use in her project: Rachel must have got to know about some of the mistakes others may have made earlier so that she did not repeat them. She could be herself making some mistakes and realized this after talking to other IS managers. News within the organization about others would give her a break from work so that she does not get bored and allow her to focus better when she sits down at her desk next. A majority portion of Rachelââ¬â¢s work was spent in communication whether that was with the client, her boss or her team. Judging from the breakup, I estimate that this activity took up almost 75% of her day and included a variety of forms of communication including one hot-headed discussion with a senior marketing manager. The time she spent during the day waiting on others exemplifies the true professional environment where one cannot immediately get in touch with another person bringing about natural communication barriers. However, Rache lââ¬â¢s determination and the ability to shuffle tasks around saw her being able to handle all the aspects of communication she intended to do so within her day. I think Rachel made effective use of her day because I saw her communicating all along the day and keeping all parties updated on the latest findings. Her meeting with her team saw her getting the task of speaking to John to clarify some promises. As soon as she spoke to John, she went to see Mary and soon after getting done with her, she updated her team on the findings. This, I believe was a collective act that I would rate as being amongst the ones that raised the utilization of her day. This is because communication in one of the main tenets of project management and Rachel ensured that all teams and people connected to the project or having a stake in it knew about what was going on in it (Lock, 2007). Rachel also made use of the well-known tools and techniques used by project managers. Her what-if analysis on MS Pr oject was an example of applying structure to a thought process to assess the possible implications of possible scenarios. I think that Rachelââ¬â¢s day was spent effectively because she managed to check on all her pending tasks, emails, phone calls and was able to make a to-do list for the next day based on the dayââ¬â¢s happenings. This I believe was the icing on the cake in addition to the way she handled her role throughout the day by getting help where needed and promising to help where she could. Question 2 Project management is a mix of technical and managerial expertise which has several aspects of communication, management and technical expertise knitted together. Being a project manager thus requires elements like patience, the ability to listen to people, make decisions with constraints and manage people and their motivation. Rachelââ¬â¢s example in the case study shows one of the many aspects of being a project manager and how it is important to be able to manag e 360 degrees of your work life. The case also tells me that project management is a mix of art and structured tool analysis where the former is applicable to the people aspect of project management and the latter to the task management section. I also get the feeling that communication is by far the most important job of a project manager and to manage a project well a project manager should be able to fight when required, stay patient when required and always keep them informed so that accurate

Tutor Marked Assessment 5 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Tutor Marked Assessment 5 - Essay Example The Social Contract contains powerful arguments against authoritarian monarchy and in favour of liberal political regimes and philosophy. Rousseau s social and political concepts from the Social Contract had a limited influence upon the American War of Independence, although the ideas of Thomas Paine and John Locke had a greater impact on the American leadership. The American War of Independence was largely fought to end British control than to introduce radical or revolutionary social and political changes, it was a conservative change of power caused by disputes over taxation. The concepts of the Social Contract had the greatest influence on revolutionary France, especially ideas on equality and the general will. Revolutionary France formally abolished most of the inequalities that had existed during the Ancien Regime, its leaders seemingly well versed in the social theories of the Social Contract. Revolutionary France abolished the monarchy and the aristocracy thus making all French men legally equals if not economically so. Rousseau did not argue that women should have the same legal rights and social or economic equality as men. The Social Contract did not seek to end slavery, although the arguments put forward against absolutist monarchy could also be used in favour of abolishing slavery. The concept of equality was easily used to support liberal or even socialist policies. The French Revolution would take the means to achieve equality to extremes. Rousseau may have detested the Ancien Regime yet it is debatable if he would of supported all the policies adopted as part of the French Revolution, particularly during the reign of terror. Rousseau though realised that often to achieve republican regimes that sacrifices needed to be made, and that monarchies or authoritarian regimes would have to be violently overthrown if they did not vow to the general will of their respective subjects. Prevent Strategy and Fundamental British Value
Prevent Strategy and Fundamental British Value The direct governmental policy response to terrorist attack, because, most of the terrorist attacks, are believed to have been perpetrated by [G1]Islamist terrorist (fundamentalist), does give the impression that government has a significant Muslim problem in relation to attractions to violent extremism.[G2][G3][G4] The Labour government, in 2003, came up with a strategy to counter terrorism,[G5][G6] with the principal aim of protecting the public, preventing radicalisation, in response to the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.[G7][G8] The strategy also contains measures to prepare for an attack and pursue attackers.[G9] This was before, the coordinated multiple bombing that led to the death of 56 people in London, termed 7/7, because, it happened on the 7th of June 2005, Islamist terrorist were believed to be behind the [G10]attack[so11]. However, after the 7/7 bombing the government launched the specific prevent strategy, schools and educational institution were brought into it, more funding was allocated to it. The duty of preventing violent extremism and a duty of care to students at risk of radicalisation was given to schools. In 2011 Prevent Strategy was transformed with new power and detailed tasks for schools and universities, by the coalition government. Prominence was giving to sa feguarding; schools giving the duty of promoting balanced and wide-ranging curriculum. Part of the changes to the prevent strategy is the power giving to Ofsted to inspect schools and sanction staff with extremist views.[G12][G13][G14][G15] The government issued the revised teachers standard, with the term fundamental British value (FBV), making its debut, in 2012. Clarke believed FBV came about, because of suspected penetration of Birmingham schools by a politicized strain of Sunni Islam. [G16]In 2014, schools received guidance on promoting FBV in conjunction with students, spiritual, social and cultural development. FBV stands for democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.[G17][G18] Education institution, not intelligence gathering organization[G19][G20] Based on the British journal of Education, we should be less rather, worried about the fact that it might be, therapeuticizing of security that is going on. This suggests that various, governmental policies linking security and education are an attempt to appear to the public, as applying the right medi[G21][G22]cine to terrorism and security. The government wants to [G23]be seen to be singing the right song, in the process using educational institution, and the concern is not about the frequent association of security and resulting legislation with education, but r[G24][G25] system as a political tool to pacify the public[G26] (Durodie 2016). [G27][G28] The idea that was put forward through the Prevent agenda [G29]is that the danger the UK is from vulnerable people who may be radicalized (vulnerable to violent extremism), this is yet to be challenged (Richards 2011). The question that arises is, what are the criteria for ascertaining those that are susceptible to violent extremism, as well as why they are prone to it? There is no straight forward answer to this questions. Since, this a difficult question to answer, it is then subject to different interpretation by different people, for instance in January 2016 a [G30]10-year-old Muslim boy was questioned [G31]by the police after misspelling terrace as the terrorist in an essay[G32] (BBC, January 2016). This arises because there is no clear-cut way of determining who is vulnerable to radicalization, hence it was subjective from the school point of view. The question I like to ask, is would this boy had been subjected to this ordeal if he were white, and if he is not a Muslim? The act ion was taken by the school and the police also raise the question of profiling and can lead to the idea that only Muslims are sympathetic towards an extremist idea. Going back to the Irish terrorism, the response from the government was completely different. [G33][G34][G35]This type of policy tends to suggest that, those, who will yield to extremist ideology can be taught out of it, and can never get involve in extremism on their own will. Recent experience completely contradicts this ideology, for example, the person who carried out the attack on the house of common in London on March 22, 2017, acted alone the metropolitan police said, they could not find any evidence that he was radicalized, how was he supposed [G36]to have been educated out of it? Also, can we say all the people who had carried out the terrorist attack are vulnerable people?[G37] The government idea involving schools in the fight against extremism ideology is merely therapeutic at best, based on the evidence ava ilable people who intend to join the course of violent extremist are not always vulnerable, but, are usually driven by a passion of fighting against passive injustice and marginalization.[G38][G39][G40] Prevent strategy does have inadvertent penalties, for instance, [G41]a 15-year-old Hampshire schoolboy was subjected to interview by the anti-terrorist team. His teachers reported him to the police claiming they had safeguarding concerns when it was discovered that he visited an extremist website on his computer. An expert in the unit set up to deter young people from becoming a member of Izal interviewed Joe and his father. It was surprising to find out that, he was not watching beheading video, he had logged on to Ukip home page. But his misguided teacher, probably, he was overzealous or lack adequate training, considered Ukip to be an embodiment of evil. In Joes [G42]words, he had visited the site as well as a film of an English Defence League rally after a debate about extremism in the classroom. The problem with the who process is the fact that both father and son were subjected to terrorist treatment. It is not unconceivable that a program set to prevent radical Islam became th e tool that hounded those who are guiltless (Richard). Making schools and teachers agents of anti-radicalization and extremism is an unsettling issue, teachers and schools already had safeguarding duty, to give them extra power can always lead to misuse of power.[G43] The police also play a pivotal role in executing prevent strategy in schools, this, does appear to damage the confidence of the Muslim communities in police and professionals in the education sector (Awan 2012). In December 2009, local police officers visited a nursery in a mainly populated Muslim area of Birmingham, because, it was thought that the children may be at risk of extremism, as part Local police in Birmingham. This is certainly an unwelcoming development, as far as the community involved are concerned [G44](Casciani 2009). This and other incidents mentioned previously, highlighted, the difficulty and the danger of executing Prevent in schools, because, of the unintended consequence of stigmatizing young children. Schools should be left simply as the institution that makes learning possible, provide education and allows creativity, they should not be turned into a government policing agency, making teachers acting like detectives[G45], monitoring signs of extremism in stud ents. The outcome of a survey carried out by Ipsos MORI shows that some schools are not in agreement Prevent Strategy (Phillips, Tse et al. 2011)[G46] Fundamental British Values (FVB) The (DfE, 2012), does give teachers the directive not to destabilize fundamental British values, the statement is problematic because it originated from counter-terrorism prevent strategy, and leads to the following questions, what is Britishness, value as well as highlighting the relationship between the state and the teaching profession. Including such term in a document that regulates the teaching profession, does, implies that teachers are now detectives, the state political tool [G47]as well the custodial all that is British. This role as well making teachers role more complex, is also a distraction and may have the potential of taking away valuable teaching time. The idea of fundamental British seems wrong as it was introduced without any debate and so was the sinister racializing consequence as identified by teachers. It would have more appropriate to have a professional dialogue with all the stakeholders in the education sector, before coming up with such policy, it might be that the government sees teachers as a political puppet, and as such, they can be ordered and imposed upon[G48][G49][G50]. Smith suggested that the government method is maintaining status quo by blatantly approving equality by an assimilationist program (Smith 2013). This is contrary to the idea of FBV, that is meant to promote democracy and inclusiveness. It is fair to argue that not all the teachers that teach and work in schools are British if the FBV is exclusive to British, how are they supposed to protect a value that is alien to them, that bring back the question of what is Britishness? are fundamentals British values exclusive to the British? Since FBV and prevent strategy were imposed on teachers, it is impossible for, both, to be teachers and in-service to understand the appropriate method to use in promoting such values and be clear about them without appearing to be programming[G51] or encouraging jingoism in schools and classrooms (Eltonà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã Chalcraft, Lander et al. 2016)[G52][G53][G54][G55] The key drive of DfE direction is to inspire head teachers to enthusiastically encourage British values, British law and reject observance of religious law if it [G56]contradicts the law of the land, on one hand, the government is trying to promote diversity and multicultural Britain, and on the other trying to suppress religious law, which might be fundamental to people religious beliefs, this can cause problem in homes where they hold their religious belief very dearly. It gives the impression of[G57] a totalising discourse of civic [G58]jingoism that presents itself as willing to put up with diversity and plurality.[G59] The modified prevent agenda in 2015, sought to oversee the compliance of the education sector and place the requirement on schools to filter online content as well as put in place policies aimed at preventing a student from being drawn into terrorism. This move is an infringement on an individual [G60][G61]fundamental human right, as it limits the expression of religious views and opinion that may be different what is defined as FBV[G62].[G63] Although the government try to link extremism and enabling student through the medium of education, there is no direct connection (DCSF, 2008), and the use of traditional, political and military method to deal with the Irish terrorism 20 years ago is completely contrary to the method being used, because, the actors are different, the educational institution was not considered to be part of the therapy than.[G64][G65] The introduction of FVB in the new standard does change the way in which teachers competency are measured from using observable parameters to attaching more importance to values, hence, teachers will now be assessed based on the quality their conceptual interaction between student and the school. [G66] Conclusion Theresa May, when she was she was the Home Secretary, did admit that early edition of Prevent policy fell short of identifying threat from extremism; it was not adequate in dealing with extremist ideology that is the biggest challenge the society faces and not measures up to reaching those who might be in danger of radicalization [G67](Gardham 2011), the evidence available is yet to proof otherwise, despite involving education institution in the process of eliminating the risk of radicalization.[G68] References Awan, I. America: The Land of Opportunities Essay -- Careers Education Economic
America: The Land of Opportunities In modern day society, a college degree leads to people making specific assumptions about an individualââ¬â¢s capabilities, which proceed to shape social generalizations that may assist or inhibit the success of an individual in the economic system or job market. Universal standards form throughout the job market as a result of those assumptions made about students who attend college that may not encourage a full understanding of an individualââ¬â¢s ability to perform his duties. The assumptions made about a college education demonstrate the general principles of reductionism, in which people follow a logical approach according to his observations. As reductionists correlate the type of college degree to an individualââ¬â¢s intelligence, the overdeterminist looks to consider an individualââ¬â¢s surroundings and experiences (which include the education received) while evaluating an individualsââ¬â¢ aptitude. This social process becomes apparent not only in my own person al life, as I reflect upon the way in which society views me because I attend Mount Holyoke college, but also through the charactersââ¬â¢ lives in the films: Mississippi Masala and the Boiler Room. I look to reevaluate the importance that the job market places on a college education, as well as the consequential economic trap that follows from the construction of assumptions. Society assumes that people who attend prestigious universities are capable and astute individuals. After having told people that I go to Mount Holyoke College, I have had people expect that I am a capable and intelligent woman solely based on the universityââ¬â¢s image. While serving at a restaurant over the summer, customers frequently treated me with more respect as they found o... ..., the amount of exceptions to those clearly laid out generalizations may appear minute and trivial now, but they could grow to a catastrophic level as the theory expands on a macro level and becomes an unquestionable mentality in the job market. By affirming assumptions throughout society, it will eventually lead to huge misconceptions about groups of people that may be completely unwarranted. Although it clarifies situations, its also minimizes the complexity and ignores truths that should be considered, for example, when evaluating an applicant in the job market. Also due to the simplicity and attractiveness in the logic, a perpetuating cycle evolves that intensifies the class processes. By offering me an opportunity simply on the basis that I attend Mount Holyoke, both Mount Holyoke alumni and society follow image and deny others chances through erroneous means.

Nicholas Carr vs Steven Pinker Essay
There is no doubt about it that in todayââ¬â¢s generation the Internet is one of the best phenomenal creations invented. By simply having a computer, cell phone, tablet, ect, anyone and everyone can access the Internet. But can this powerful yet simple creation have a drastic effect on how the new generation operates today? The entire world is rapidly becoming obsessed; everywhere you look youââ¬â¢re bound to see something related to the Internet. Search engines, texting, twittering, blogging; to name a few. We have all heard of at least one of those internet friendly applications. But can those applications become too friendly to the point where they are a distraction to the young mind? Can those applications hinder how the human brain functions? There are numerous arguments, views and statements regarding such an important question. Two writers that I researched share their opinions and views based off of how the internet has affected others intelligence today. These two writers go by the name of Nicholas Carr and Steven Pinker. Without having any knowledge of what the articles are about one only needs to read there titles to distinguish the differences between the two. Where as Nicholas Carrââ¬â¢s article is titled, ââ¬Å"Does the Internet Make You Dumber? â⬠Steven Pinkerââ¬â¢s article is titled, ââ¬Å"Mind over Mass Mediaâ⬠. Both writers have completely different types of titles but one can assume that they are responding to the same subject. After thoroughly reading both articles, Nicholas Carr and Steven Pinker have completely different views when it comes down to how the internet influences others. Firstly, Nicholas Carr addresses heavily how in fact the internet does make you dumber. All throughout the article he gives examples of studies aimed at showing how the internet doesnââ¬â¢t positively contribute to the brain at all. As stated from the article Nicholas Carr explains how ââ¬Å"People who read text studded with links, comprehend less than those who read traditional linear text. How, people who watch busy multimedia presentation remember less than those who take in information in a more sedate and focused mannerâ⬠. All of which are pretty apparent that the effect that the internet has on the mind is quite drastic. On the other hand, Steven Pinkerââ¬â¢s article strongly disagrees at the fact that the internet affects the human brain. His defensive points primarily explain how without the internet a lot of today discoveries and new inventions wouldnââ¬â¢t be possible. Also he defends the fact that distraction or addiction is not a new phenomenon. Regardless of whether the internet is a popular utility or not, distraction would still be an occurring issue. It is quoted: ââ¬Å"If electronic media were hazardous to intelligence, the quality of science would be plummeting. â⬠Also, ââ¬Å"Yes the constant arrival of information packets can be distracting or addictive, especially to people with attention deficit disorder. But distraction is not a new phenomenon. The solution is not to bemoan technology but to develop strategies of self-control as we do with every other temptation in life. â⬠Steven Pinker is trying to get the reader to understand that the internet doesnââ¬â¢t essentially make you dumber but it does hinge at oneââ¬â¢s attention span. Outside of the internet distractions are common everywhere. One can become distracted by their job, parents, work, internet, ect. Because of these interruptions Steven Pinkerââ¬â¢s makes it known that all distractions require self-control. If one doesnââ¬â¢t have self control over an issue they will become addicted. Lastly my research wasnââ¬â¢t over. It wouldnââ¬â¢t be right if I didnââ¬â¢t get a third opinion to help provide some extra study. A third writer that I came across was a woman named Sherry Turkle. Sherry Turkle has written a popular novel titled ââ¬Å"Alone Togetherâ⬠. In the novel Alone Together author Sherry Turkle explains a third completely different concern on how technology affects the average American. This concern is in regards to how individuals will end up alone together because technology has distanced face to face relationships. That society expects more from technology and less from each other. Over the years Sherry Turkle has examined how technology has jeopardized the true meaning of hands on communication. Although she does not mention how the internet may interfere with learning or brain capabilities she does still presents other exceptionally important factors. In conclusion, in comparison of the two primary articles that I researched I would ultimately have to agree with the Nicholas Carr piece. I feel as if the Nicholas Carr piece will convince more people. His article compared to Steven Pinkerââ¬â¢s has a lot of legitimate studies and facts. His studies included one conducted at Cornell University, where they conducted the laptop experience, which compared the effect of students who studied utilizing the traditional method of the library and those who studied using the laptop for research, with the conclusion that those who studied using the library grades were higher; studies from Stanford where they conducted a multi-tasking trial, also, studies from the University of California in San Francisco where they conducted a brain experiment. Where, Steven Pinkerââ¬â¢s article comes off as an opinion piece with little to no background information or supporting references. I would want to believe that the mind is in fact over mass media but Steven Pinkerââ¬â¢s article doesnââ¬â¢t defend his title strongly at all. Thus, leaving me with the conclusion that the internet is a major distraction, can hinder how I use my brain properly, and can jeopardize my in person communication skills that I have available.

The Gods in ââ¬ÅThe Iliadââ¬Â of Homer Character Analysis
In order to sum up the role or gods in the eternal masterpiece written by Homer, one may use the bright remark of the character of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"King Learâ⬠, which is the following ââ¬Å"As flies to wanton boys are we to the gods; / they kill us for their sportâ⬠. This is the holy truth but only to a certain extent for the reason that the gods in ââ¬Å"The Iliadâ⬠have solid connections with some of the mortal people (remember the special friendship between Odysseus and Athena?), especially when these people are their kids (consider Thetis and her grief for her son Achilleus). But at the same time, there is still something trivial about ââ¬Å"The Iliadâ⬠gods and the way of life they keep to. It is made clear in the Book 1 feasting scene, in contrast to the intense struggle between mortals (Agamemnon and Achilleus). When reading about the gods pictured by Homer, one should remember several basic facts. First, they are all immortal creatures. In other words, their veins have no blood. They are full of ichor ââ¬â the divine matter. To say more, they can live without food, giving preference to ambrosia and immortal nectar. At some point Homerââ¬â¢s gods even ââ¬Å"eatâ⬠. But having no McDonalds nearby, they are satisfied with the sacrifice smoke coming from the burned animal fat, offered by mere mortals. In exchange for such offerings from people, the gods are ready to provide a lot of services for human beings (for instance, giving the desired victory in the athletic contests). One more thing to remember about the gods created by Homer is that they took the great Trojan War rather personally. Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war, and Hera, the goddess of females, are against the Trojans for the silliest reason ââ¬â because Paris found Aphrodite more gorgeous than them. The lord of the sea, great Poseidon is also opposed to Trojans because he is mad at Laomedon. An ancient Troy king enslaved him long time ago. Ares, the god of war, has taken the Trojans side. In other words, everyone has made his own choice. As for those, who are neutral, the king of all gods Zeus, the lord of the metal-working Hephaistos and finally the underworld kind Hades ââ¬â all of them pick their sides depending on the occasion, for their own profit. Spartan Political and Social System Essay - 1390 Words
Spartan Political and Social Systems Sparta was, above all, a military state, and emphasis on military fitness began at birth, imprinted through society and the political system. The education of the Spartan male children prove that the military and war was constantly a huge part of Spartan society, and the laws and systems that Sparta was governed by, only enforced the militaristic attitude into the society of Sparta. That the Spartans needed to be ready for war is proved by the discord between the Spartiate and the helots, who outnumbered and under ranked the Spartans. From birth Spartan children were expected to be physically strong and when male children were ten days old they were examined by a council of elders to see if theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦When the children turned twelve they started a harsher training, teaching them the hardships they would have to suffer in a time of war. They trained nude, slept on beds of rushes, given a minimal amount of food and expected to fend for themselves. There were also contests to see who could take the most severe flogging. For the most part of these years the boys were arranged into groups, and were sent off into the countryside with nothing, and were expected to survive on wits and cunning. It was assumed that they would steal their food, yet anyone caught stealing was severely punished. The next stage in turning a Spartan male into a Spartiate soldier was for them to become enrolled as an eiren, or a prefect. Their job was to oversee the younger boys, as had been done for them. They were encouraged to use violence against the younger boys to toughen them up. The older boys were now expected to attempt to get into a syssition, however if they failed to get into the syssition they applied for they would lose their citizenship and become an outcast. The Spartans at this point were able to go to war and get married, however they were not allowed to leave the barracks. Although most would support that capital punishment is the closest penalty for murder it is still used unequally across the prison populations. The violation of the 8th amendment also applies to juveniles and mentally retarded criminals because they do not have the capacity to understand that the crime they committed was a societal wrong. Statistically, the amount of people who are convicted are generally from the same societal class. Medical Emergency Samples for Students â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Medical Emergency. Answer: Introduction The current study focuses on the aspect of medical emergency and the role of the attending medical officer in coping up with the provisional medical requirements of the concerned patient. The assignment takes into consideration a number of factors such as provision of immediate medical interventions along with considering the pathophysiology of the patient. The responding medical officer also needs to be considerate of the past medical history of the patient along with the presence of some other co-morbid conditions. In this respect, the first aid or the preliminary health care services provided to a patient in case of emergency can often be life saving. Therefore, assignment focuses upon the assessment and treatment methods which are of immense importance in catering to the prevalent medical condition of the patient. Background of the case The current case highlights the sudden medical emergency faced by the faced by a 65 year old patient Mr. Stephen Jones over here. Mr. Jones here had no such cardiovascular history or any previous episodes of chest pain. However, he had recently faced sudden and massive chest pain which went radiating to his back. Apart from that the patient was also suffering from nausea and felt diaphoretic. Thus, for the provision of sufficient and accurate diagnosis to the patient the medical professional attending the patient also needs to take into consideration the long term medical history or presence of other co-morbid conditions in the patient. The ECG report of the patient reflected sinus tachycardia with ST elevations. However, as commented by Tham et al. (2015), the reports and the findings of the ECG reports are often misleading. Here, Mr. Jones had been suffering from hypertension, high cholesterol and depression at the same time. Therefore, he had to be under constant guidance and long term medication management. Some of the medications which had been prescribed to the patients over here include atorvastanin, atenolol, aspirin, Citalopram among the few. Provisional diagnosis The patient had been suffering from sudden and massive chest pain and no attributable past cardiac conditions. Therefore, the immediate prognosis which could be provided to the patient includes conducting ECG tests. In this context, the ECG reports revealed sinus tachycardia with ST elevations. This could lead to misleading results as such symptoms are also expressed in cases such as cardiac ischemia. However, they could be warning signs of myocardial infarction which could be followed up with the help of further scanning and analysis (Andrade et al. 2014). Therefore as immediate intervention and control the patient needs to be put under emergency treatment process where the immediate oxygen supply could be provided to the patient. Aetiology The development of a cardiac condition could be attributed to a number of factors such as the presence of cardiovascular conditions within the family. Apart from that the presence of co-morbid conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol can also add up to the health grievances. In this context, Mr. Jones had high amount of cholesterol which might have restricted the normal course of blood to the heart. He was also found to overweight increased the risk of cardiovascular condition in the patients manifold times. The patient here also had been affected with hypertension and was taking medications for depression. Along with that intake of medicines such as aspirin in higher doses could also interfere with the rhythmic beating of the heart (Alpert et al. 2014). Additionally, blockage of the coronary arteries could trigger ventricular fibrillation leading to cardiac arrest. Epidemiology The epidemiology of cardiovascular disease varies according to age, gender and lifestyle approaches followed by a specific individual or within a community. In this respect, the cultural values or paradoxes possessed by individual group of people further govern their daily life habits. As per reports and evidences at least 1 out of 5 people with history of obesity, hypertension and other co-morbid conditions experience major cardiac symptoms in their life. The statistics point at greater amount of cases being reported from the western countries and is directly proportional to the ageing population or the middle aged population of 53-65 (Karpawich, 2015). Pathophysiology Cardiac arrhythmia is a type of condition in which the heart beats in an irregular manner. The cardiovascular arrhythmia is the variation from the norm of the working of the myocardium. Side effects, for example, unsteadiness, palpitations, and syncope are visit griped issues of the patients. Despite the particular type of chest pain, the pathogenesis of the arrhythmias can be categorized as one of three essential instruments: upgraded automaticity, activated action, or re-entry. Ischemia, disturbances of electrolyte, scarring, medications and different factors may upgrade or degrade automaticity in different regions (Borlaug, 2014). Control of automaticity of the sinoatrial (SA) node can bring dysfunction in the sinus node and sick sinus syndrome (SSS), which is as yet the most well-known sign for perpetual pacemaker implantation. As opposed to smothered automaticity, improved automaticity can bring about numerous cardiac problems, both atrial and ventricular. Assessment During the cardiac arrhythmia the following points are to be assessed for the determination of arrhythmia: Assessment of the normal blood pressure Assessment of the normal pulse rate Assessment of normal heart rate Assessing the respiration The patient was then assessed for the following: Dizziness Then after the patient is being hospitalized the ECG is being done. EKG rhythm strips are continually analysed to track the cardiac problem. Treatments The patient suffering from cardiac problem was used to treat with some common drugs such as artery relaxers (e.g. nitroglycerin), aspirin, blood thinners, or antidepressants (Goff et al., 2014). In case of Stephen Jones, he was being treated by the medications as follows: Atorvastatin Used in lowering the bad cholesterol and increases the good cholesterol in the blood. Atenolol It is used in lowering the blood pressure which helps in preventing strokes, heart attacks and other problems such as kidney disorder. It can also be used to treat the angina or the chest pain. Aspirin It is generally used in preventing the blood clots which is very important as the blood used to clot in the arteries and block them which brings blood to heart muscle and pain Citalopram This medicine is used to treat depression, which can help in reducing anxiety and depression. Transport The decision of transferring a patient to another clinic is made after an evaluation of the potential dangers and advantages to the patient. Signs for between healing center exchange incorporate the requirement for master examination or mediation, or progressing support not gave in the alluding clinic (Motoki et al., 2016). Non?clinical purposes behind exchange incorporate the absence of a properly staffed basic care bed locally, or repatriation to a nearby healing facility. Between healing facility exchanges are regularly made out of typical working hours, and the patient might be joined by generally junior staff, prompting a high rate of basic episodes. These exchanges represent up to 30% of all between healing facility basic care transport, and half of these are patients with injury. The requirement for principles and preparing in such exchanges were accentuated 10 years prior. This has been managed to some degree by the Safe Transfer and Retrieval course; however numerous learner s still need preparing in the transfer of the critical patients (Krumholz et al., 2013). Conclusion Thus from the whole paper it can be concluded that Mr. Jones had recently faced sudden and massive chest pain which went radiating to his back, also suffering from nausea and felt diaphoretic. The ECG was done and the patient was shown with sinus tachycardia. Mr. Jones had the high amount of cholesterol which might have restricted the normal course of blood to the heart. He was also found overweight which increased the risk of cardiovascular condition. References Alpert, M. A., Lavie, C. J., Agrawal, H., Aggarwal, K. B., Kumar, S. A. (2014). The Support of Art by the Government Essay Example For Students
The Support of Art by the Government Essay Government Support Arts: Good or Bad? A museum director in Italy was setting fire to his art collection in the hope that politicians would take notice. Funding for the arts from government is declining. From the magazine called The Economist, they set a debate about whether the government should support arts. Some people insist the government should support the arts. However, other people stand on the opposite side. According to the people Who think government should support art, they consider there might be many reasons why we should support arts. One idea is that culture makes us a better society; federal support is needed to prevent our decline into culture barbarism. Another idea is that the free market fails to provide outlets for the higher forms of arts. A third idea is that the Limited States has been deficient because of lagging behind European governments that support the arts as a matter of course. There is also the myth of the starving. If we neglect to support the arts, we will be condemning another Van Gogh or Mozart to a wretched existence. We will write a custom essay on The Support of Art by the Government specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now It is also generally recognized that many highly talented artists lack commercial aptitude, and this leads to an argument that the public has a responsibility to support them. From an article, written by Andy Callahan, published in an arts magazine named Burgeon, it said that Arts and culture are the soul to any community. It is hard to imagine what the world would be like without the arts. Arts and culture are the engines that drive business. Without the arts, businesses cannot thrive, neighborhoods decline and our quality of life is greatly diminished, There are many real examples we can found in several governments. From the National Assembly of State Arts Agency, the IIS government set funds to support The government support for art museum and other forms of arts. The government provided lower taxes on the art products to support arts. The BC government also claimed that supporting arts would benefit their country, so they made policies to support arts. On the Other side, some people think the government should control the arts. The artists who have expectations of support without controls do not really understand the basic nature Of government as the organized force. Any government, whether communist or democratic, represents political and coercive roses. All the resources and powers of the government tend to be deployed to serve the interests of the political group in control and also to deal with things that threaten the very survival of the state. This is as true of the United States as it is of the Soviet union. Either type of government must establish bureaus and procedures for any of its activities, whether its running the army or supporting artists. Any decision to make something a government activity is also a decision to place it under bureaucratic management with various controls and reporting methods for measurement of results. In a short video named Should Government Support the Arts, Leon Bitten explain the reason why US Government do not support the art is that we cannot agree what would he art, He said that why should we subsidize opera companies, museums, artists, performance spaces, independent filmmakers and photographers? One way to solve that problem would be to say well as in science they can be kind of peer review, an object sense of what is good, what is bad and if we could discriminate, if eve could agree then we could say well these people deserve support, these people dont. A website named View on Canadian Art raise a question which is Does government support mean better art? And then their answer to the question is Not necessarily. They think the most important for artists is create, not the fund from government. .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42 , .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42 .postImageUrl , .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42 , .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42:hover , .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42:visited , .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42:active { border:0!important; } .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42:active , .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42 .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uebf355489b542d06b535bba3d7aadf42:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: My Love of Sports EssayMost of the artists hope the fund is hope to be famous and is for ego or adulation. A characteristic of good art is that it engages individuals in a very deep and personal way, and in ways that may not be shared by every member of a group. The purpose of art is to find a way to wake up people who are going through their lives sleepwalking and say: Stop it. You cant walk past this. This is your life. Artists have to be able to function in society and say there are basic human values that must be preserved, that cannot be shortchanged, or else we wont have a society. Art is an individual to become part of something that is larger than us. The arts are connected to being a grown-up. In order to be a grown-up, one has to he able to envision other lives as real, other possibilities as real. When we dont have the arts, a very important part to us begins to starve and our humanity begins to dwindle. Art is a link with the past, It provides an enjoyable perspective from which we examine history. Art helps people understand and empathic the living conditions people have endured at various times and places. Art encourages imagination. It shows people how they might express their own feelings and experiences through painting and drawing Art provides people an opportunity to create, which can be a refreshing break from studying. Art teaches people how to interpret different forms of communication. It teaches them to understand figurative things like symbolism, metaphor, and the meanings of color. Art improves academic achievement. Evidence suggests hat people who actively participate in some forms of art, whether it be painting acting, music, etc. Perform better in Other subjects than those who dont participate in art. From an article published on the Freeman, Melvin D. Barge set some comments about What should government notice when support the arts. First, government must always be politicized. Second, government must be captive to elite groups. Third, government is likely to be inefficient. Last but not least, government programs must define who is an artist. Art is an important part i n our live, so insist the government should support art. But also the overspent should pay attention to the way to help artists.
